Elementary Camp: Day 3

Finally back on track with the blog! Today was BUSY, but I'm sure you're used to reading that ;)
Today was very productive all things, and all little mental crises, considered. The campers were really tired cause they actually CAMPED last night - apparently no one slept a wink. The result was a bunch of grumpy campers and some counselors.. and an extended nap hour haha!

Today was a bead animal-centric day. The first group to come in (group 4) continued to work on bead animals.. Some of them chose to draw instead, though. Group 5 did the same activity, as did group 3. Group 6 were working on weaving and the ones that didn't weave either drew pictures or worked on bead animals (Seriously, bead animals saved my sanity today).
MORE Minecraft
Group 1 wanted to gimp, draw, and when I introduced them to Shrinky Dinks they could not get enough of those! I think each kid made two or three before they left.
I don't want to play favorites but I was having the most fun working with group 2, because they were working on their dragon puppets!... so yes, I am playing favorites.
I changed the lesson plan a bit to serve the younger campers better. Instead of wrapping the egg carton pieces in paper I had them wrap the pieces in ribbon and decorate the heads more... which also bought time for me to prepare!
It's just SO CUTE. I can't. I really can't.

those little pink things are ears

mustache.. because.. mustache
The next step was for the girls to go out and find a stick to control the puppet.. the stick has to be as long as their arm and sturdy. Tomorrow they will be putting the finishing touches on the dragons (wings, more decorations, tail, tongue) and then constructing the control apparatus. That's a fancy way of saying the STICK and STRINGS. They are very excited and so am I :)

The last part of my day was planning, yet again, and messing around with my Shrinky Dink stuff. I made my sister a present for her birthday.. .she likes Michael Buble. I gave her the knockoff version in keychain form. I'm a good sister.

Michael BOOBY. I crack myself up.
Tomorrow is going to be FILLED with beads and string and probably more Shrinky Dinks and who knows what else! I am hoping to get the kids done with a chunk of their weaving projects so I don't lose any more needles.. junior high took their fair share from my room!

Oh, just a note, the clean up procedures are working AWESOME. The kids make sure to clean up exactly at the 15 minute mark so they can buy gimp. If your area is not clean, you don't get anything! It's all about teamwork, assigning jobs, and being organized. The kids are responding very well to the clean-up plan because they have that gimp incentive at work. I'm so crafty. Pun. Intended.
