Let the New Man Live... Summer Games Camp

Heyyya

So this week is not very craft centered.. at all. I have actually been doing mainly yard and grounds work. Yey for learning how to use a weed whacker!?
Summer Games is highly structured - down to 15 minute increments of time! The kids are always in the right place and on strict schedules.. they even have designated bathroom breaks.
The campers are broken up into groups called Huddles which are mixes of girls and boys of varying ages. It's been fun to see the kids meeting new friends and playing hard on the field.

I did get to participate with the kids doing a craft, though! The deans wanted to do at least one project since I was so proactive to contact them. Go me!

The message/theme of this camp was "Let the New Man Live", meaning they should cast off their old doubts and dark feelings and let new ones shine through in service of the Lord. The kids decorated wooden crosses with paint, (evil) glitter, moss, and other embellishments.

Sunday was the painting stage of the craft and I had to provide table cloths and painting supplies.. I sat out on the painting, though. I was too tired! This camp is very organized and were able to coordinate everything they needed to accomplish the first step.

GLITTER. POURED GLITTER. NOOOO

Each camper took on the idea differently.. some of them only wanted a little of the 'old man' to show on their crosses while others divided them evenly. It was interesting to see what each kid came up with. And then of course some of the campers just wanted to use the skull beads cause they looked cool, much to the chagrin of the deans!

This was the only craft for the camp so I am being reassigned to more outside projects and grounds. Gotta earn your keep, I guess.
Luckily the camps after this one are going to have LOTS of opportunities for crafts and making artsy messes. Looking forward to that!

Until then, I will put on my work boots and get covered in grass for another day.
